Angela Hess is a Professor of Biology in the Department of Biological and Health Sciences at Bloomsburg University. She earned her Ph.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology from the University of Iowa and specializes in melanoma research, focusing on molecular mechanisms driving tumor progression and metastasis.
Research Interests: Dr. Hess investigates the role of receptor tyrosine kinases like EphA2 in melanoma aggressiveness, vasculogenic mimicry, and tumor cell plasticity. Her work bridges molecular signaling with clinical implications, including potential therapeutic targets.
Scientific Awards:
- R&S Mini Grant (2016) for adopting a mouse model in melanoma research
- Co-Principal Investigator for Zeiss Confocal Microscope acquisition (2016)
- CPUB Student Research Grant (2016) for Rebecca Price
Teaching: She teaches Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Nutrition, Medical Terminology, and Cancer Biology. She also supervises 24 interns in Medical Imaging at Geisinger Medical Centers.
Service Activities: Dr. Hess serves as Secretary for Phi Kappa Phi and Director/Co-Director of the Academic Biology Learning Environment (ABLE). She contributes to advisory committees and science outreach as a judge.
