Andrés Palacio

Andrés Palacio is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economic History, Faculty of Social Sciences, Lund University. His work spans economic development, sustainability, and social demography with a focus on racial and gender inequalities.

Palacio's research explores economic development in the Global South and social demography centered on racial and gender disparities. He teaches courses on development economics, economic history, inclusive growth, and the history of technology, with a regional focus on Asia.

His recent publications address topics such as economic shrinking in developing countries, freshwater aquaculture in Madagascar, and the Blue Economy in Latin America. These works align with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to poverty reduction, climate resilience, and equity.

• Projects: FORMAS-funded climate-water-biodiversity research (2023–2027), Erasmus+ network initiatives (2025–2027), and collaborations with the Stockholm Environmental Institute.

Palacio has supervised PhD students and engaged in international conferences, including the World Economic History Congress 2025. He combines academic research with policy advisory roles in governmental and supranational organizations.
