Tobias Axelsson is a Senior Lecturer at Lund University, affiliated with the Department of Economic History and the Department of Human Geography. He also holds a Senior Lecturer position in Economic Development of the Global South and contributes to the LU Profile Area: Human Rights.
Research Interests: His research examines structural transformation toward modern economic growth, focusing on Southeast Asia, agricultural change, and the economic dynamics of colonialism. He ties historical insights to contemporary development trajectories in the Global South.
Teaching: Tobias teaches economic history of developing regions (Asia-Pacific, China, India) and development studies (post-war era). He serves as Director of Studies for Lund’s Bachelor in Development Studies and supervises bachelor’s and master’s students.
Projects: Current projects include
- The art of limiting economic shrinking (2025-2028)
- Confronting climate-water-biodiversity interactions (2023-2027, funded by FORMAS)
- Farmers in Crisis: Resilience to Global Shocks (2023-2026)
