Since 2014, he has focused on editing Uwe Johnson's correspondence through XML transcriptions for printed and digital editions while conducting archival research and commentary development.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in German Studies and Modern History (2008), advanced studies in German Studies and Philosophy (2010), and a doctoral degree completed in spring 2022 centered on Uwe Johnson's student research. His thesis on Arno Schmidt's Black Mirror resulted in a published commentary handbook.
Kischel's research examines 20th-century German literary-science intersections, literary world dynamics, and digital humanities applications for scholarly communication. His expertise manifests in editorial work on Uwe Johnson's archives and Arno Schmidt's narrative prose, emphasizing post-war German intellectual history through digital methodologies.
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on editorial theory, authorship studies, and post-war literary reconstruction. His recent monograph on Johnson's student years and contributions to the Arno Schmidt Handbook demonstrate evolving methodology from traditional commentary to digital edition development.
He actively contributes to the Uwe Johnson Research Center legacy through the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities project at Rostock University. His team responsibilities include archive cataloging, digitization workflows, and collaborative edition production within the Uwe Johnson Works Department framework.
