Hanna Bott is a Researcher at the Institute of German Studies within the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Rostock. She holds a Research Associate position at the Uwe Johnson Professorship for Modern German Literature of the 20th Century under Prof. Holger Helbig, teaching the "Introduction to German Literature" course while conducting research on narrative theory and Uwe Johnson's influence. She also serves as the primary academic advisor for Bachelor's students in German Studies.
Her educational background includes:
- Master of Arts in German Studies (Literary Studies major), University of Rostock, 2024
- Dual-Subject Bachelor of Arts in German Studies and French Language, Literature and Culture, University of Rostock, 2022
Hanna's research centers on modern German literary scholarship with dual emphases: traditional analysis of Uwe Johnson's narrative techniques and innovative digital humanities approaches to textual editing. Her work bridges philological rigor with contemporary digital methodologies, particularly in reconstructing anniversary editions and evaluating design principles for scholarly digital publications.
Her recent publications reveal a cohesive trajectory merging literary criticism with digital praxis, demonstrating how editorial decisions in digital editions impact scholarly interpretation of 20th-century German literature. This interdisciplinary focus positions her at the intersection of textual scholarship and digital innovation.
She actively contributes to academic service through the Uwe Johnson Society as an honorary board member (since 2023) and supervisor of the Uwe Johnson School Prize (since 2020). Her prior student assistant roles at the Uwe Johnson Professorship and Junior Professorship for Digital Humanities (2020-2024) established her foundation in both literary research and digital tools development.
