Andrew Wakefield is a Professor at Campbell University Divinity School, where he has served on the faculty since 1997. He held the Lewis Edward and Martha Barnes Tyner Endowed Chair of Biblical Studies since 2008 and served as Dean of the Divinity School from 2010 until stepping down from administrative duties in May 2025 to resume full-time faculty responsibilities.
Wakefield earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University, Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. in New Testament from Duke University.
His primary research focuses on Pauline epistles and the Book of Revelation, with expanding work in theological education's intersection with practical church life. He has taught across New Testament studies, Greek language, preaching methodology, leadership development, technology integration in ministry, and spiritual formation for 27 years, emphasizing applied theological scholarship.

As an ordained Baptist minister, Wakefield has served 14 churches as interim pastor and dozens more through supply preaching, Bible teaching, and retreat leadership. He co-founded Baptist Fellowship of Angier, an innovative mission-focused church exploring alternative polity structures, demonstrating his commitment to bridging academic theology with congregational practice.
His current research priorities include writing projects examining theological education's role in contemporary church vitality, building on his extensive experience in both academic and pastoral contexts.
