Andrew Schroth is a Research Professor at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Vermont. He holds a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from Dartmouth College, an M.S. in Geology from Northern Arizona University, and a B.A. in Geology from Colgate University. His research focuses on low-temperature geochemistry and environmental mineralogy, with an emphasis on understanding water quality dynamics, climate change impacts, and nutrient cycling in freshwater ecosystems.
Key areas of study include the geochemical interactions between sediments, water columns, and atmospheric processes, particularly in lakes, rivers, and coastal zones. His work integrates high-frequency sensor data, machine learning, and field observations to model hydrological and biogeochemical responses to environmental changes. Notable contributions include studies on glacial meltwater impacts on ocean geochemistry, winter runoff nutrient export risks, and the synergistic effects of climate change and legacy phosphorus on lake ecosystems.
Recent research highlights the role of living labs in advancing responsible precision agriculture innovation and explores the complex drivers of riparian soil oxygen variability using self-organizing maps.
