Carli Arendt is an Associate Teaching Professor at the North Carolina State University (NCSU), associated with the College of Sciences and the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences. Her research focuses on hydrochemistry applications in polar, fluvial, and coastal environments, particularly investigating nutrient availability, chemical weathering, and radionuclide dynamics in permafrost and glacial systems. She teaches courses including 'Climate Dynamics,' 'Glaciology,' and 'Geochemistry of Natural Waters.' Her lab emphasizes inclusivity and welcomes diverse collaborators.
Education: B.S. Geology from St. Norbert College (2010); M.S. and Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of Michigan (2014–2015).
Research Interests: 1) Trace metal datasets in hydrologic systems; 2) Nutrient fluxes in warming cryosphere; 3) Carbon sequestration via chemical weathering; 4) Terrestrial-to-marine geochemical dynamics; 5) Radionuclide distribution in water reservoirs. Recent work includes studies on proglacial river systems, Arctic soil geochemistry, and glacial meltwater impacts on ocean isotopes.
Publications: Over 30 peer-reviewed articles since 2015, focusing on Arctic hydrology, glacier dynamics, and isotope tracing in environmental systems. Key themes include climate change impacts on nutrient cycles and permafrost degradation effects.
Lab Environment: Committed to fostering an inclusive space for students and researchers across disciplines.
