Andrew Ramsay

Prof Andrew Ramsay is an Honorary Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of St Andrews, affiliated with the Infection and Global Health Division. His research focuses on tuberculosis (TB) control strategies, diagnostics for infectious diseases, and global health policy, with a particular emphasis on low-resource settings. He leads initiatives to improve TB case detection and reduce healthcare costs for patients in Nepal through active case-finding strategies and diagnostic innovations.

His work includes evaluating GeneXpert and smear microscopy for TB diagnosis, contributing to malaria microscopy standardization, and analyzing the economic impact of TB on households. Collaborations with global partners like the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust and East African institutions strengthen his research impact.

Prof Ramsay has systematically reviewed strategies to scale up COVID-19 testing across income levels and assessed the effectiveness of the Structured Operational Research and Training Initiative (SORT IT) in shaping health policy. His research bridges clinical practice, diagnostics, and public health to address global health challenges.
