Dr. Sabiiti holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham, an MSc from Vrije University Brussels, and a BSc from Makerere University. His research spans tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, and vaccine development, with strong interdisciplinary collaboration across Africa, Europe, and North America.
His research focuses on developing and optimizing rapid diagnostic tools such as the TB-MBLA assay, understanding drivers of antimicrobial resistance, and translating innovations into public health policy. He also investigates viral diagnostics and vaccine access in resource-limited settings, including mpox and COVID-19. His recent publications reflect a strong emphasis on computational modeling, AI-assisted diagnostics, and epidemic response strategies.
The trends in his recent articles highlight a multidisciplinary approach combining molecular biology, data science, and public health. Key themes include quantitative TB diagnostics, AI in microscopy, causal modeling of AMR, and leveraging epidemics to strengthen clinical research infrastructure in Africa. His work consistently emphasizes equity, capacity building, and real-world impact.

- International Funders' Award in Management Skills for Researchers
Dr. Sabiiti advises postgraduate students, including Ritah Faith Nakiboneka, and serves as a principal investigator on multiple funded projects such as MpoxVax-AFRIVAC and BREEDIME. He contributes to peer review, editorial boards (Frontiers, PLoS), and expert panels for UKRI, NIHR, and WHO. He co-chairs the CERCLE Immunology & Diagnostics Working Group and coordinates the St Andrews-Africa Health Research Network (StAAHR), playing a key role in building research capacity across continents.
He leads and participates in international research consortia focused on vaccine trials, diagnostics, and antimicrobial resistance. His work is supported by funding from EDCTP, MRC, British Council, and other global health agencies. His lab collaborates with institutions in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and beyond, fostering equitable partnerships in global health research.
