Dr Helena Feasey is a Public Health Researcher and Arclight Development Manager at the School of Medicine, University of St Andrews. Her work focuses on epidemiology and behavioral change interventions to improve global health outcomes, particularly in tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and low-cost medical technology implementation. She leads the Arclight project distributing ophthalmoscopes/otoscopes to enhance eye and ear health in low-resource settings. Previously, she conducted extensive research on TB diagnosis and public health strategies in Malawi, contributing to community-based interventions and genomic studies.
Her research addresses TB-HIV co-infection dynamics, spatial epidemiology of TB transmission, and the impact of pandemics like COVID-19 on disease notification systems. She has led cluster-randomized trials (e.g., SCALE trial) and systematic reviews evaluating active TB case-finding strategies. Key contributions include identifying TB underdiagnosis hotspots and analyzing TB mortality determinants in urban populations.
Feasey’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being). Her datasets and software tools, including genomic and spatial analysis frameworks, are publicly available via GitHub and OSF platforms. She collaborates with global health organizations to translate research findings into actionable public health policies.
