معرفی
Professor Andrew Peden is a faculty member in the School of Biosciences at the University of Sheffield, specializing in cell biology and molecular mechanisms of protein secretion. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge (1995–1999) and a BSc from the University of Edinburgh (1991–1995). His academic career includes roles as Lecturer (2012–2018), Senior Lecturer (2019–2023), and currently Professor (2023–present).
Research: Peden's lab focuses on constitutive secretion pathways, post-Golgi trafficking, and SNARE protein functions. Key interests include antibody secretion in plasma cells, cytokine release in inflammation, and diseases linked to secretion defects (e.g., amyloidosis, monoclonal gammopathies). Recent work explores SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis and antiviral mechanisms, including viral evasion of tetherin restriction.
Awards & Grants: Funded by BBSRC, MRC, Medimmune, and UCB. Recognized by the NC3Rs (2024) for ethical research practices. Professional roles include BBSRC Committee D member (2023–present) and WHO COVID-19 assays group member (2021–present).
Teaching & Mentorship: Leads courses on membrane dynamics (BMS376), molecular cell biology (BIS225), and supervises undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students. Recent advisees include Sam, Ola, and Dan. Active in lab collaborations with groups at UCL, Strathclyde, and Stanford.
Labs & Facilities: Based in the Florey Building, his lab uses advanced imaging, proteomics, and functional genomics. Collaborates with the Luzio and Faundez labs on SNARE interactions and secretion assays.
