Andrew J. Boyd serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering within McGill University's Faculty of Engineering. His academic career at McGill began in September 2006, and he maintains an active research program focused on construction materials and sustainability, particularly as they relate to transportation infrastructure. His office is located in the Macdonald Engineering Building, Room 482.
Dr. Boyd's educational background includes a B.Sc.Eng. from the University of New Brunswick (UNB), an M.A.Sc. from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) and an elected Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (FACI).
His research interests span construction materials and sustainability, with specific expertise in durability, non-destructive testing & evaluation, standards & specifications, repair & rehabilitation, recycling, and hazardous waste reduction & mitigation. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including CIVE 202 (Construction Materials), CIVE 527 (Renovation and Preservation: Infrastructure), and CIVE 623 (Durability of Construction Materials), emphasizing sustainable development principles in each.
Analysis of his publication record from 2011-2017 reveals consistent scholarly output focused on concrete technology, durability mechanisms, and sustainable construction practices. His work demonstrates particular strength in non-destructive testing methods, carbonation curing techniques, and infrastructure materials assessment, reflecting his commitment to advancing sustainable practices in civil engineering.
