Andrew Evans is Professor of Materials Physics and Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Physics at Aberystwyth University, UK. He is affiliated with the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Business and Physical Sciences, where he leads major research initiatives in surface science, materials characterization, and advanced antenna systems.
His research focuses on materials physics, particularly diamond and graphene-based systems, surface chemistry, photoelectron spectroscopy, and the development of 5G/6G wireless antenna technologies. His work employs synchrotron radiation and X-ray methods to study surfaces and interfaces, with applications in quantum technology and sustainable materials.
The recent publications indicate a strong trend toward 6G and millimeter-wave antenna design, smart city applications, and environmental stability of nanomaterials, alongside fundamental work on diamond and organic semiconductor interfaces.
- Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales (2023)
Andrew Evans actively supervises PhD students and leads multiple externally funded research projects, including the HarwellXPS: A National Research Facility in XPS and several STFC DTP grants. He has contributed to public science through media appearances and participation in national events like the Royal Society Summer Exhibition and the National Eisteddfod. He leads the Environmental Surface Analysis Facility (ESAF) and the Centre for Photonics Expertise, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
