Dr Andrew Chesher is a Senior Lecturer in the Fine Art program at Chelsea College of Arts, part of the University of the Arts London. He holds a PhD from Chelsea College of Arts (2007), an MA in Theory and History of Modern Art (Chelsea College), and a BA (First Class) in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London. His research focuses on Neo-avantgarde and post-conceptual art practices, with emphasis on phenomenology and critical theory.
Research interests include Art History, Art Theory, Minimalism, Deconstruction, and Phenomenology. Chesher has authored essays in journals like Zeitschrift für Ästhetik und Allgemeine Kunstwissenschaft and presented at international conferences in Europe. He has directed documentaries on modern music, including Knots and Fields (2010) and Changing the System (2007), exploring legacies of modernism.
His academic outputs span 2010–2024, addressing topics like Marcel Broodthaers, Robert Morris, and intersections of art with film, text, and spatial theory. Chesher advises research students on themes such as (Post-)Conceptualism and urbanism. He is fluent in German and Italian, contributing to peer review and academic discourse in these languages.
