Dr. Dan Byrne-Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art Theory at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. He holds an affiliation with the Comics Research Hub and is a Fellow at the Horniman Museum, exploring connections between natural history collections and science fiction.
His research focuses on comics, science fiction, utopia, speculative design, and museology. He authored the book Traces of Modernity (2012), which examines intersections of art and modernity. His current fellowship at the Horniman Museum bridges natural history and speculative narratives.
Dr. Byrne-Smith’s work integrates art theory, cultural critique, and interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary visual culture. He contributes to academic discourse through publications and institutional collaborations.
