Andres Hoyos is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Practicum Faculty Adviser, and Practicum Seminar Instructor at the School of Social Work, Smith College. With over 20 years of experience in mental health and social services across private, public, and non-profit sectors, Hoyos specializes in clinical practice, program development, and training through a social justice lens.
Research interests include psychedelic integration psychotherapy, substance use, immigration, political asylum, trauma, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities. They teach courses such as clinical social work practice, psychopathology (DSM-5), and decolonizing social work. Hoyos has advised practicum students for over a decade and lectures globally on trauma, resilience, and community advocacy.
They maintain a private practice in NYC and online, focusing on integrative psychotherapy. Internationally, Hoyos engages in training, community organizing, and advocacy in Guatemala, Colombia, and the U.S., emphasizing global mental health equity.
