Andreas Löschel is Professor of Economics and Chair of Environmental/Resource Economics and Sustainability at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, and a researcher at RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. He previously held professorships at the University of Münster and the University of Heidelberg and served as Head of Research at ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research. He is a Lead Author of the IPCC's Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports and chairs the Federal Government’s Expert Commission on Monitoring the Energy Transition since 2011 and the Board of Directors of the Akademien-Initiative 'Energiesysteme der Zukunft' (ESYS) since 2024.

His research centers on climate change economics, energy economics and policy, behavioral economics, and international environmental agreements. He investigates the design and effectiveness of climate policies, energy transitions, and behavioral responses to sustainability initiatives.
