Dr Andreas Janke is a Research Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures, University of Hamburg, specializing in late medieval Italian music manuscripts. His research combines musicology with advanced imaging techniques to study palimpsests and polyphonic notation systems.
His work focuses on recovering erased musical texts through multispectral imaging and reconstructing scribal practices in 14th-15th century Italy. Research interests include material analysis of inks/papers and historical bookbinding practices affecting musical manuscripts.
Dr Janke has developed novel methodologies for analyzing damaged manuscripts and leads projects on formatting conventions in polyphonic music manuscripts. His publications address both technical aspects of manuscript analysis and historical performance contexts of recovered musical works.
