Andreas Filaretou is an Associate Professor of Social Psychology at the European University of Cyprus (Nicosia, Cyprus), affiliated with the School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Development from Virginia Tech (2001), following earlier degrees in Sociology from the same institution. His research focuses on gender roles, sexuality, tourism sociology, and organizational behavior, with notable work on male deviance in tourism contexts and interethnic marriage dynamics.
Key contributions include studies on sexual harassment prevention in the hospitality industry (2009), the role of charisma in political leadership (2010), and the intersection of virtual interactions with evolutionary psychology (2008). He has served as an editorial board member for journals like Sexuality & Culture and The International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, and led a major research project on workplace sexual harassment (2007-2009).
Awarded a Fulbright Scholarship (1987-1991), Filaretou has also contributed to academic governance through roles in accreditation committees and institutional reviews. His work bridges theoretical social psychology with applied contexts such as tourism, hospitality, and organizational behavior.
