Ana Luiza da Gama e Souza is a Professor in the Ph.D. Program in Law at Estacio de Sa University, Brazil, conducting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law, philosophy, and sociology with emphasis on corporate human rights obligations.
Her academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Philosophy, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro
- Ph.D. in Sociology and Law, Fluminense Federal University
- Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Law
- Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy
Her research examines how global corporations—particularly in the agri-food sector—can advance positive peace through ethical labor market integration of vulnerable migrants in Brazil. She analyzes corporate practices that guarantee decent work opportunities while addressing root causes of conflict, using frameworks combining legal theory, migration studies, and peacebuilding. This work directly confronts Brazil's challenge of integrating 700,000+ migrants (2010-2018) amid socioeconomic vulnerabilities.
She coordinates the Human Rights Observatory within the Research Network on Human Rights, Peace, Insecurities, Sustainability and Global Actors (REDHIPAS) and holds memberships in the Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Association (BR2R), European International Studies Association, and Research Data Alliance (RDA). Her IPRA Foundation-funded project Vulnerable Migrants in Brazil: Towards Building Positive Peace through the Company’s Commitment to Human Rights successfully documented corporate pathways to sustainable peace through labor market access.
