Angélica Cocoma is a Ph.D. Research Candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, affiliated with the Just Migration research group led by Prof. Dr. Anuscheh Farahat. Her work bridges legal theory and anthropological analysis to examine migration dynamics.
Education:
- LLB in Law and Bachelor in Philosophy from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia
- LLM in Legal Theory with Distinction from the London School of Economics and Political Science
Research Focus: She explores how EU and domestic labor migration laws affect the agency of highly skilled migrant women from the Global South in Europe. Her interests include international human rights law, gender and migration, and critical legal studies, particularly through the lens of colonialism and political economy.
Professional Experience: Previously worked at Women’s Link Worldwide, representing victims of human rights violations in Colombia’s Special Jurisdiction for Peace and contributing to the 2022 abortion decriminalization lawsuit. Currently investigates migrant women's interactions with legal frameworks in Europe and Latin America.
