Ana Atanacković is a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection, Institute for Biological Research 'Siniša Stanković', University of Belgrade. Her career spans over 15 years at the institute, with progressive appointments from Associate Researcher (2010) to Senior Research Associate (2016), and formal recognition of her expertise in 2022.
- Education: University of Belgrade (BSc in Biology, 2004; PhD in Ecology/Hydroecology, 2015)
- Key Research Areas: Aquatic ecology, biodiversity monitoring, invasion biology, and biomonitoring using macroinvertebrates
Her work focuses on assessing aquatic ecosystem health through oligochaete and polychaete communities, studying anthropogenic impacts on freshwater habitats, and developing groundwater protection models. Notable methodological contributions include vulnerability assessment frameworks for karst systems and mine drainage pollution analysis.
Her publications (2012-2024) demonstrate expertise in environmental geochemistry, groundwater-surface water interactions, and pollution risk assessment. Key themes include acid mine drainage, invasive species monitoring, and sustainable water resource management.
She maintains active membership in the Serbian Biological Society and Serbian Society for Water Protection, contributing to regional environmental science through interdisciplinary projects.
