Nataša Popović serves as a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection within the Institute for Biological Research "Siniša Stanković," which operates under the University of Belgrade in Serbia.
Her research interests span multiple dimensions of aquatic ecosystem studies, with particular emphasis on:
- Aquatic ecology and biodiversity assessment
- Water quality monitoring using biological indicators
- Anthropogenic impacts on freshwater ecosystems
- Urban aquatic environments and their ecological functioning
- Environmental protection strategies based on ecological data
Dr. Popović specializes in the study of nonbiting midges and other aquatic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators for assessing ecosystem health. Her work contributes to understanding how human activities affect water bodies and the organisms that inhabit them, particularly in urban settings where anthropogenic pressures are most pronounced.
Her research aligns with several ongoing projects at the institute, including water quality monitoring initiatives and biodiversity assessments of aquatic systems in Serbia. The Department of Hydroecology and Water Protection where she works plays a critical role in national water resource management and environmental protection efforts.
