Dr. Amy Spiers is a Senior Lecturer and Vice Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow at RMIT University's School of Art. Her work bridges artistic practice, curation, and academic research in public and socially engaged art. She focuses on addressing societal gaps, particularly colonial histories and anti-racist practices, through art that provokes critical dialogue.
Her research interests include decolonization of memorials, Indigenous-settler relations, and anti-racist art practices. She has curated major exhibitions like 'Counter-monuments' and published widely, including co-editing Let’s Go Outside: Art in Public (2022) and co-authoring Art/Work: Social Enterprise (2022). Her art projects have been featured globally.
Supervising PhD/Masters students, Amy explores topics like culturally responsive outdoor learning and landscape photography’s role in colonial narratives. She emphasizes participatory art’s role in public space and its intersection with pedagogy.
Her creative works and publications critically engage with historical silences, neoliberalism’s impact on youth, and the politics of public discourse. Amy’s interdisciplinary approach merges art, activism, and scholarship to challenge systemic inequities.
