Dr. Inge Dornan is Reader in the History of Race and Gender and Acting Deputy Dean for the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences at Brunel University London. She joined Brunel in 2003 after completing her PhD at the University of Cambridge and previously held fixed-term lectureships at the Universities of Oxford and Warwick. Her administrative roles include Divisional Lead for Politics and History and Deputy Head of the Department of Social and Political Sciences.
Dornan's research examines race, gender, and power in the British Atlantic world, with emphasis on:
- British slavery/abolition in the Caribbean and North America (1700-1833)
- Education of enslaved children
- Anti-Fallism and memorialization conflicts
- Grassroots resistance to statue removals
Her publications analyze slave management, colonial education, and imperial memory, with recurring themes of gender dynamics and resistance. Recent work explores counter-campaigns defending British imperial monuments.

Dornan supervises PhD students researching transnational Black activism, British-East India Company cultural impacts, and 18th-century gender history. She is a steering committee member for History UK and UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab.
