Dr. Amy Abell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Memphis. She joined the department in 2013 and teaches courses on stem cell biology, including BIOL4094 Biology of Stem Cells and BIOL7730/8730 Stem Cells: Culture/Appl. Her research focuses on epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), a critical biological process in development and pathologies like cancer metastasis and organ fibrosis.
Education:
- B.S. in Physiology from the University of California at Davis
- Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Iowa at Iowa City
- Post-Doctoral Fellow in Pharmacology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center
Her lab investigates the signaling and gene expression networks regulating EMT using stem cells isolated from mice with EMT-related defects, aiming to identify novel regulators for applications in regenerative medicine and disease treatment.
