Amos Nascimento is a Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, University of Washington Tacoma. He also maintains affiliations with the Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) and Environmental Studies (ES) programs at UW Tacoma, as well as the Germanics Department and Jackson School of International Studies at UW Seattle.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Philosophy from J.W. Goethe Universitat-Frankfurt, Germany (1997)
- M.A. in Social Sciences from Universidade Metodista de Sao Paul, Brazil (1991)
Nascimento's research focuses on Critical Theory and Discourse Ethics, with significant applications to human rights, cosmopolitanism, and environmental issues. His scholarly work bridges European (particularly German) and Latin American (particularly Brazilian) philosophical traditions, having studied with prominent thinkers including K.-O. Apel, J. Habermas, M. Lutz-Bachmann and A. Honneth at the University of Frankfurt.
As an active academic, Nascimento serves on the Board of Directors of the Tacoma World Affairs Council and participates in numerous national and international organizations focused on philosophy and environmental studies. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as "Introduction to the Philosophy of Human Rights," "History of Philosophy," and "Environmental Ethics."
