Prof. Hans Schelkshorn is a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Intercultural Philosophy of Religion at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Catholic Theology. He holds academic titles including DDr. and has held leadership roles since 2016. His research focuses on modernity theories, philosophy of religion, discourse ethics, and Latin American philosophy.
Education: Studied theology, philosophy, and classical philology at the Universities of Vienna and Tübingen. Earned degrees including Mag. theol. (1984), Dr. theol. (1989), Dr. phil. (1994), and Habilitation (2007).
Research Interests: Specializes in intercultural philosophy, modernity critiques, liberation ethics, and the intersection of religion and secular reason. Has published extensively on thinkers like Enrique Dussel, Karl-Otto Apel, and Jürgen Habermas. His work explores global modernity, coloniality, and the philosophical implications of Latin American thought.
Recent Contributions: Recent works include Rethinking European Modernity (2024) and Okzidentale Konstellationen (2023). Active in international conferences and editorial roles, including co-editing Polylog and serving on the Austrian Academy of Sciences' commission on global cultural connections.
