Matthias Hofmann is a Researcher at the Institute for Systematic Theology and Ethics under the Faculty of Theology at the University of Leipzig. He earned his Dr. theol. in May 2025 with a dissertation on Friedrich Schleiermacher's theological work, and his current habilitation explores the intersection of religion, hedonism, and cultural studies.

- Teaching: Introductory seminars in systematic theology, dogmatics, and ethics; co-taught courses on Ernst Troeltsch and Rahel Jaeggi's critiques of life forms
His research spans systematic theology, theological ethics, and philosophy of religion, with a focus on contextualizing Schleiermacher's lectures on Jesus and analyzing modern hedonism. Recent publications include contributions to the Journal for the History of Modern Theology and a co-edited volume on ethics and happiness.
Scientific awards include the Wolfgang Scheuffler Research Prize (2019) and a Konrad Adenauer Foundation Doctoral Scholarship (2018). He is a member of the International Schleiermacher Society and has held various research and teaching roles since 2011.
