Amber Engelson is a Professor of English and Director of Writing at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D., M.A., and A.B. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Occidental College. Her research explores global literacies, feminist rhetorics, and critical pedagogies, focusing on how writers transform English across diverse contexts, particularly in Indonesia. Engelson teaches courses such as Senior Seminar: Counterstory & Critical Imagination and directs MCLA’s Writing Studio while coordinating campus-wide writing initiatives.
Her research emphasizes translingual praxis, Islamic gender justice, and the intersection of feminist activism with religious belief. Recent publications include *The Hands of God at Work* (2024) and articles in *College English* and *Literacy in Composition Studies*. Engelson’s work challenges divides between rationality/spirituality, female agency/Islam, and English/non-Western meaning-making. She actively presents at conferences like the Conference on College Composition and Communication, advocating for global-responsive pedagogies.
