Dr. Ross's research centers on advancing equity, accessibility, and diversity in music performance and education. She initiated a long-term project in 2019 examining systemic representation gaps in trumpet pedagogy, resulting in her peer-reviewed 2021 publication analyzing manifestations of racism in classical trumpet performance. Her work bridges academic scholarship with practical initiatives to dismantle barriers in musical spaces.
Her scholarly output demonstrates a clear trajectory toward decolonizing music education through critical analysis of representation. The single documented publication establishes her focus on intersectional equity within brass performance traditions, reflecting broader trends in musicology that prioritize social justice frameworks in artistic practice.
As Assistant Professor, Dr. Ross mentors students through jazz program coordination and OU Jazz Band direction while maintaining an active performance schedule. Her leadership extends to chamber music initiatives that create platforms for underrepresented artists, though specific grant funding details are not disclosed in available materials.
Dr. Ross co-founded Girlnoise, a pioneering mixed-chamber ensemble dedicated to amplifying women's artistry in contemporary music. The ensemble has premiered works by composers including Annika Socolofsky and Nadine Dyskant-Miller while performing repertoire spanning early motets to modern popular arrangements. She also performs with cutting-edge groups like ÆPEX Contemporary Performance and the International Contemporary Ensemble, participating in world premieres by composers such as George Lewis and Alvin Lucier.
