Amanda Lee is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Management at the University of Derby’s College of Business, Law and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on academic labor processes, remote working dynamics, gender issues in esports, and organizational development. She has collaborated with institutions like the CIPD and contributed to projects analyzing the D2N2 low carbon sector’s workforce needs.
Key research interests include exploring contested identities in remote academia, feedback mechanisms in education, and barriers to HR directors’ career progression to CEO roles. She has published extensively on work-life balance, temporal/spatial boundaries in academia, and the erosion of traditional workplace structures.
Her work spans book chapters, peer-reviewed journals, and conference presentations, with notable contributions to the British Academy of Management (BAM) and Edward Elgar Publishing. Lee’s research often employs ethnographic methods and reflexive approaches, emphasizing the intersection of organizational policies and employee experiences.
Her recent work (2025) critically examines gender marginalization in esports, while earlier studies (2014–2017) dissected location-independent working’s dual role as both employee empowerment and managerial control mechanism. Collaborations with scholars like Sophie Mills and Marialaura Di Domenico highlight her focus on qualitative, context-driven analysis.
