Dr. Althea Arguelles-Ling is an Honorary Associate in the Department of French at the University of Sydney. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2003) and a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Sydney (2015). Her research focuses on intersections between French literature and architecture, 18th-century women playwrights, and mother-daughter relationships in literature. She manages a database of summaries for plays by 17th- and 18th-century French women authors.
Research interests include Marcel Proust’s architectural imagery, spatial dimensions of salons, and gender studies in early modern French drama. She has published on Olympe de Gouges and salonnières, contributing to eighteenth-century cultural studies.
Teaching experience spans French language and literature at the University of Illinois Chicago, UNC Chapel Hill, and the University of Sydney. Current projects explore Proust’s architectural metaphors and the symbolic role of columns in literary spaces. Professional affiliations include the Australian Society for French Studies and the Modern Language Association.
