Patrizia Oppici is a Tenured Professor at the University of Macerata, where she has taught French Literature and Culture since 1998. She specializes in the history of ideas, with a focus on altruism and the concept of the gift in 18th- and 19th-century French literature. Her editorial work includes the digital critical edition of Abbot Castel de Saint-Pierre’s writings on bienfaisance (altruism). She has published extensively on Balzac, Flaubert, and Proust, as well as on 18th-century novels and Revolutionary-era literature.

Her research spans 18th-century Enlightenment ethics, 19th-century French realism, and contemporary Francophone literature from the Caribbean. She has explored themes such as philanthropy, literary violence, and textual imperfection through critical editions and essays.
Recent publications include chapters on Bouvard et Pécuchet in the context of imperfection and George Sand’s travels to Spain, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to French literary history. She has also contributed to studies on Marcel Proust’s narrative beginnings, Flaubert’s palimpsests, and 18th-century moral philosophy via digital editions and annotated texts.
