Alison Long is a Lecturer in English Language at Keele University's Language Centre, serving as Programme Director for Modern Languages, module co-ordinator for British Cultural Studies and Postgraduate Researcher courses, and Disability Liaison Officer. She also holds a Board position for the MA in Cultural Linguistics of Great Britain and the USA at St Petersburg State University, Russia.
Education:
- BA (Hons) in Russian
- MA in Comparative Literature from UCL
- PhD in Russian language change from University of Surrey
- DipTESOL from Trinity College
- Postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching in higher education
Her research critically examines language evolution in Slavic contexts, endangered linguistic systems, policy frameworks for language preservation, and constructed languages. This work culminated in creating the Illitan language for the BBC's adaptation of China Miéville's "The City and The City".

As Programme Director and module co-ordinator, Long actively shapes curriculum development and student mentorship across Modern Languages programs while advancing accessibility through her Disability Liaison role.
She collaborates within Keele's Language Centre team to deliver language education services and coordinate international academic partnerships.
