Alison Bailey serves as Associate Professor in Management at the University of Sussex Business School since 2015, following prior roles at the International Study Centre (2010-2015) and extensive teaching experience since 1994 across US high schools and UK colleges. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Certified Management and Business Educator, she integrates commercial background from KPMG and the NHS into her academic practice.
Her research centers on four interconnected domains: the workplace impact of gender violence; Team-Based Learning for engagement in large classes; business simulations for independent learning; and sustainability leadership in business education. This dual focus on pedagogical innovation and social justice drives her collaborations with Sulitest and Rewired Earth, directly influencing curriculum design across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Recent publications (2021-2022) reveal a consistent thread connecting educational methodology with social impact. Two works demonstrate how Team-Based Learning and business simulations combat disengagement in large cohorts, while her research on domestic abuse disclosure exposes systemic workplace discrimination. Collectively, these outputs bridge theory and practice through active learning frameworks grounded in real-world challenges.
Her recognition includes:
- Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SHEA)
- 2025 Teaching Excellence Award for Rewired Earth/TASK Certificate integration
- 2025 joint Teaching Excellence Award for Climate Fresk initiative
As dissertation supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students, she mentors through project-based learning with Rewired Earth, guiding teams to present at venues like the House of Lords. Her leadership in embedding the Sulitest TASK Certificate—measuring sustainability knowledge against SDGs and Doughnut Economics—has positioned the Business School as a UK Change Leader, with global presentations at QS EdData and PRME conferences.
Current initiatives include PRME London & South-East Co-Leadership (assumed June 2025), Rewired Earth student collaborations across multiple modules, and Sulitest webinar series promoting TASK Certificate adoption. These partnerships create experiential learning pipelines where classroom theory directly informs sustainable business solutions.
