Alison Andrews serves as a Lecturer in Contemporary Performance Practices at the School of Performance and Cultural Industries, University of Leeds since 2011, where she teaches across Theatre and Performance programmes while completing a practice-based PhD in site-specific performance.
Her educational background includes a BA (Hons), MA, and ongoing PhD research. She studied at Leeds' Workshop Theatre and has taught at Leeds Beckett University and Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Her research examines site-specific performance as an exchange of hospitality, creating works in everyday community settings through the Leeds-based collective A Quiet Word. Her practice integrates contemporary performance, community arts, and inclusive methodologies with artists of diverse abilities.
Her recognition includes:
- Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA)
As an active educator, she supervises postgraduate research and welcomes PhD inquiries in experimental performance. She contributes significantly to community arts through her trusteeship at Pyramid of Arts (supporting artists with learning disabilities) and ongoing collaborative work with A Quiet Word's multidisciplinary artist collective since 1998.
