Dr. Alison Matthews is a Senior Lecturer in Performance at the University of Salford's School of Arts, Media and Creative Technologies, where she co-convenes the Practice-as-Research Centre of Excellence. Originally from the USA, she specializes in integrating creative technologies (especially AI) with ecological themes and immersive theatre.
Her research explores:
- Creative engagement with mycology and forest ecology
- One-to-one/immersive performance architectures
- Generative AI as a collaborative artistic tool
Recent works demonstrate strong technological integration: 'BOBBY, LUNCH IS DARKNESS' (AI-human co-created script) and VR adaptations of 'The Ballad of Isosceles' examine voyeurism through digital lenses. Her 2024 piece 'Mushroom Language: A Fungal Gothic' premiered at The Lowry, continuing her eco-performance focus.
