Aline Jaeckel is an Associate Professor at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong. She holds a PhD in international law from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), an LLM from Leiden University, and an LLB from the University of West of England (UWE Bristol). Her research focuses on ocean governance, international environmental law, and the law of the sea, particularly regarding deep seabed mining regulation. She advises governments during International Seabed Authority negotiations and serves as a Distinguished Research Fellow at Macquarie University’s Centre for Environmental Law.
Her career includes roles at the Research Centre for Sustainability (Helmholtz Centre Potsdam, Germany), UNSW’s Faculty of Law and Justice, and Macquarie Law School. She is an editorial board member of Marine Policy and a member of the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) Minerals Working Group. Key grants include the Australian Research Council DECRA Fellowship and contributions to projects like ‘Maritime Consultancy 2.0’ and ‘Effective Governance Practices for Common Heritage Resources’.
