Ali Noroozi is a Senior Fellow at the Melbourne Law School, specializing in tax law and administration. He holds Bachelor degrees in Engineering and Law, along with a Master of Laws in Taxation. With over 30 years in tax-related roles, he served as the Inspector-General of Taxation (IGT) in Australia from 2008 to 2018, overseeing the ATO and Tax Practitioners Board. During his tenure, the IGT office expanded its role to include ombudsman functions, driving significant improvements in tax administration.
Before his IGT role, he held senior tax positions at major accounting and law firms in Australia and the UK, including five years as Tax Counsel at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. His expertise spans tax policy, regulatory frameworks, and interdisciplinary legal challenges at the intersection of engineering and law.
In his current role, he teaches Tax Administration within the Melbourne Law Masters program, bridging academic and practical perspectives in tax governance. His career reflects a deep commitment to enhancing tax system fairness, transparency, and accountability.
