Ali Asgary is a Professor at York University's School of Administrative Studies, specializing in Disaster & Emergency Management. He serves as Director of CIFAL York (UNITAR affiliate) and Executive Director of ADERSIM. His roles include leading disaster simulation initiatives and policy training programs. With a PhD from Newcastle University and degrees from the University of Tehran, Dr. Asgary has pioneered disaster management programs in Canada since 2003.
Research focuses on post-disaster recovery, AI/VR applications in emergency response, and risk assessment methodologies. Projects have been funded by NSERC, SSHRC, and international agencies. Key contributions include flood mapping frameworks, pandemic response modeling, and emergency exercise evaluation. He has advised on global health crises, including the 2020 pandemic, leveraging digital twin technologies and agent-based simulations.
