Evalyna Bogdan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Administrative Studies at York University, specializing in environmental and disaster sociology. Her interdisciplinary work focuses on socio-environmental challenges such as floods, food systems, and disaster resilience, emphasizing stakeholder engagement, policy analysis, and participatory strategies. She develops innovative educational tools like the We’re Ready! disaster preparedness workshops and the Flood Resilience Challenge role-playing game to enhance societal resilience.

Research Interests: Evalyna’s work bridges disaster governance, community-based research, and adult education. She examines power dynamics in disaster contexts and designs participatory methods to address complex socio-ecological problems. Her global fieldwork spans Canada, the Netherlands, Namibia, and New Zealand.
Advising & Engagement: She mentors graduate students (currently accepting new applicants) and leads community partnerships through projects like We’re Ready! and the Flood Resilience Challenge Game. These initiatives aim to strengthen disaster preparedness through collaborative decision-making and adult education strategies.
