Alfredo Thiermann

Alfredo Thiermann is an architect and Research Fellow at ETH Zurich, where he explores the intersection between architecture and diverse media, including sound installations, film scenography, and public infrastructure. He is also a Visiting Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, investigating the architecture of radio in Cold War Berlin.

His research integrates architectural theory with practical experimentation, spanning installations like Dynamics of the Void at Santiago's Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Design Biennial in Santiago. His work interrogates how Cold War-era broadcasting infrastructure shaped urban and ideological landscapes.

Alfredo has been recognized as a finalist in the Young Architects Program (MoMA) and a nominee for the MCHAP Emerging Architect Prize (IIT). His projects have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Istanbul Design Biennial, and Museo MAC Quinta Normal in Santiago.

As part of the Max Planck Institute's Digital Humanities Team, Thiermann collaborates on interdisciplinary projects that bridge historical research with technological analysis. His theoretical work has been published in Revista ARQ, TRACE magazine, and Domus.

He has taught at Princeton University, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and Universidad San Sebastián, contributing to academic and professional architectural discourse. Currently, he resides in Zurich, Santiago, and Berlin while raising two children, Pedro Tristán and Juan Nataniel.
