Alfredo Thiermann

Alfredo Thiermann is an Assistant Professor of History and Theory of Architecture at EPFL's School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC), within the Institut d'Architecture (IA). His research explores intersections between architecture, media, and technology, spanning sound installations, film scenography, and urban infrastructure. He holds a professional degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, a Master's from Princeton University, and a Ph.D. from ETH Zurich.

Teaching & PhD: He instructs courses such as 'History of Architecture I/II' and 'History of Architecture V/VI', focusing on critical historical narratives and 20th-century architectural developments. His advisees include Ella Sophie Neumaier and Clara Louise Richard.

Research & Awards: Recipient of the Rome Prize (German Academy in Rome), his work has been exhibited at institutions like MoMA (NY), Venice Art Biennale, and HKW (Berlin). He authored a 2024 MIT Press book on architectural theory.
