Alexis Grélois is a Lecturer in Medieval History at the University of Rouen. He holds a doctoral degree from Paris-Sorbonne University with a thesis on Cistercian nuns from the origins to the 14th century. His current roles include Head of Level 2 Studies, Coordinator of History Aggregation Preparation, and Treasurer of the Society of Medieval Historians of Public Higher Education. Grélois is also a member of editorial committees for journals like Cîteaux – commentarii cistercienses and participates in ANR-funded research projects on Cistercian charters.
His research focuses on female monastic life, gender relations in the Central Middle Ages, and Cistercian institutional development. Notable projects include the ANR CharCis digital collection of 12th-century charters and co-organizing the 2015 Le temps long de Clairvaux conference. Grélois has published extensively on Cistercian expansion, monastic governance, and medieval source editions.
His academic contributions span 30+ articles in journals like Cîteaux and Annales de Bretagne, as well as collaborative works on Normandy monastic sites. He has edited his doctoral thesis for Brepols and is preparing articles on Cistercian provinces and hermitage institutionalization in Western France.
