Dr. Richard Allen is a Research Fellow at St. Peter's College, University of Oxford. His work focuses on the ecclesiastical history of northern France during the High Middle Ages, particularly ducal Normandy (911–1204). He specializes in analyzing administrative records like charters to explore political, legal, economic, and cultural contexts of medieval societies. His research also encompasses the history of the Cistercian abbey of Savigny and the digitization of medieval texts via platforms like TEI-XML.
Key projects include editing episcopal acta from Lower Norman dioceses as part of the ACTÉPI project and studying Savigny's scriptorium, networks, and texts such as the Chronicon Savigniacense. He is currently preparing an edition and translation of the Liber de miraculis sanctorum Savigniacensium, a 13th-century miracle collection.
Allen's broader interests span medieval frontiers, prosopography, and the digital transmission of medieval texts. He is affiliated with St. Peter's College and contributes to interdisciplinary medieval studies, bridging historical analysis with digital methodologies.
