Alexander Schnell

Alexander Schnell (born 1971) is a Professor of Theoretical Philosophy and Phenomenology at the University of Wuppertal since 2016. He directs the Institute for Transcendental Philosophy and Phenomenology (ITP), the International Fichte Research Center (IFF), and the Marc Richir Archive (MRA). His academic roles also include presidency of the International Association for Phenomenology and editorial leadership for multiple phenomenology-focused journals and book series.

His research focuses on Metaphysics, Ontology, Transcendental Philosophy, Philosophical Anthropology, and Aesthetics, with publications in both German and French. Notable works include Seinsschwingungen (2020) and Die phänomenologische Metaphysik Marc Richir (2020).

Scientific Awards:

• Monod Prize (1988)
• Raymond-Aron Prize (2004) for translation of Eric Weil's The Logic of Philosophy

He has held teaching positions at Sofia, Paris XII, Poitiers, Paris-Sorbonne, Memphis, Freiburg, and Abu Dhabi universities, establishing the Center for German Classical Philosophy and its Posterity (CEPCAP) in 2012.
