Alexander Layton KC is a Visiting Professor at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London. With over 45 years of experience, he specializes in private international law, advising on cross-border civil and commercial disputes, public international law, and state immunity. He has practiced in English courts, the European Union’s Court of Justice, and courts in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Layton is a Bencher of the Middle Temple, a Recorder, and a Deputy High Court Judge.
He has taught private international law at King’s since 2016 and lectured on European and international law in the UK, Europe, and the US. His advisory roles include memberships on Oxford’s Institute of European and Comparative Law, the Journal of Private International Law, and ERA Forum’s editorial boards. He is a trustee of ERA (Germany) and former chairman of multiple legal organizations, including the Bar European Group and the British German Jurists’ Association.
His research focuses on transnational legal issues, arbitration, and comparative law. Layton’s publications span encyclopaedias and peer-reviewed articles on EU law, arbitration, and cross-border litigation.
