Prof. Alex Tan is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand), coordinating the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) specialization. He holds concurrent roles as Honorary Professor at the NZ Defense Force Command and Staff College, Associate Director of the NZ Contemporary China Research Centre, and Fellow at the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies (USA). He is also an Adjunct University Chair Professor at National Chengchi University (Taiwan).

Research Focus: Specializes in political economy, Asia-Pacific international relations, Taiwan/Asian politics, and electoral systems. Active in Track II security dialogues representing New Zealand.
